We’re Back!
Rock Against Racism Vermont was founded in 2020 at Jezebel’s Eatery in Wilmington, Vermont. The restaurant’s owners and other members of the community felt compelled to act in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests. The restaurant itself was also shuttered during the Covid 19 pandemic, giving our cause a feeling of urgency.
After hosting a few small, socially distanced events, we jumped into the deep end with the 2022 and 2023 Harvest Music Festivals at Adams Farm in Wilmington, Vermont. These were huge successes, providing music, art, and food for the community while raising money for local nonprofits. We had high hopes that 2024 would be another great year.
Unfortunately, that year RaRVT was dealt an unexpected blow: the building that housed Jezebel’s Eatery was sold, and the restaurant was forced to close. Our headquarters, and the main source of income for many of our founding members, was gone in an instant.
It’s been nearly a year of getting back on our feet and putting our lives back together. Our founders are lucky to have steady work once again. We’re ready to jump back into our project of putting together a community of artists, musicians, and activists who oppose racism and bigotry. And we’re reopening just time for the unlawful fascist takeover of our federal government!
We need community, activism, and direct action more than ever. This spring and summer, RaRVT is putting together live events, actions, and activities in southern Vermont and Baltimore, Maryland. Check this space for weekly updates on our upcoming events. We also plan to post links and information about local groups, events, activities, and direct actions that support RaRVT’s mission.
